Sommet Pilates and Steve have been life changing for me! I hurt my back a few years ago and found out it was a herniated disc. When I was 35 years old I crushed my right foot in a rafting accident. For over 2 years I had a serious limp and frankly never recovered good mobility.

Byt the age of 54 I found myself with my both hips replaced due to osteoarthritis! I was never prescribed serious PT before or after both hips but I went thru epidurals and pain management treatments and limited gentle yoga that left me incredibly discouraged. Truthfully, I couldn’t get out of a car without pain, stairs were a nightmare, get up from the toilet without holding on, nope and forget trying to squat..ain’t happening! Chronic pain..and frankly, I thought, this is it..the rest of my life.

I was always very active traveling, motorcycling, sailing and golfing but frankly it was all different now. Everything I did had about a 2 week payback of stiffness and real pain. Recognizing that I was suddenly hitting 65 years old..I freaked and suddenly woke up to I better try something new. I had heard about Pilates but I wasn’t really familiar with it. I just couldn’t seem to rationalize the price either! Well, guess what, you can’t put a price on certain things.

So...I am a staunch researcher and we can all do this... I just spent some time online and literally asking EVERYONE I knew or saw in exercise gear whether or not they had tried Pilates and if so where etc. Of course no one had a bad pilates experience..hahah!

First I scheduled 3 evaluations with different studios. Two of them charged for the evals, one did not (Sommet)..but that was irrelevant to me. The reviews were very comprehensive for Sommet Fitness but I went to the other 2 first nonetheless. They all had the same price structure btw.
Two of the places had a different atmosphere then Sommet and I felt it was just ok..but when I saw Steve and Chandler it was a night and day difference! I wanted a place that was not going to let injure myself! It was clear Steve knew his stuff. He even offered me the name of one of his clients who was getting ready for a new hip and was preparing in advance - what a concept!!

Anyway, I started the end of February, 2018 and have been going for about 10 months now. I go 3 days a week, privates with Chandler (who is amazing!) This was my personal preference even though they do have classes etc.
So, let me tell you..I am asked at every session how my pain or stiffness level is..the session is tailored to me and I never leave feeling sore! She uses the massage balls to evaluate and help me work out the knots etc. Now, to be fair,, that is the way I want it. After years of pain I am now pretty intolerant of pain. I have also learned a ton about my body and the changes I have to make in how I walk, stretch etc. I use her methods with the massage balls when I am at home and get tight.

Today I can now get out of a car holding a drink without even touching the door..yes, get up off the toilet without holding on ....and NO MEDS!! My life is completely different now! —OH, and despite no diet changes I have lost 5 inches!! I can do sit-ups, arm wrestle and walk, walk, walk! So..if you want a professional fitness studio with an owner who has his own personal experiences with injury himself , then I really encourage you to go in for the evaluation! I can’t believe I’m where I am now at 65..sure didn’t think there was a chance! So....THANKS to Steve and Chandler!! Yaaa! I gotta a life!
